Important to Know about Throat Pain
In human
physiology, throat pain is one of
the most common diseases.In any situations this pain can be very unpleasant
and will deteriorate to the point where it's painful to swallow anything and
everything. There are many
reasons for a
sore throat and is often not necessary to
go to the doctor for
this condition, as
one can easily take a few simple steps
to help the condition, but there are several
reasons for sore throats that must be dealt
with seriously and
need medical treatment .
Such
as common cold or flu symptoms if your child has a throat
pain. Some viruses affect the adenoids,
and could lead to illnesses like tonsillitis, so if your child presents any
symptoms of throat pain, fever, runny or congested nose or tenderness inside
their mouth, it is wise to take them to see their pediatrician as soon as
possible for diagnosis.
Symptoms of Throat Pain
Pain on swallowing, and sometimes
pain in the neck when the symptoms of throat pain, including your throat will
feel burning or painful sensation in the back of throat.
Other symptoms that may accompany a
sore throat include :
- Coughing
- Sneezing
- Hoarseness or laryngitis
- Runny nose
- Mild fever
- General fatigue
- Swollen lymph nodes (glands) in the neck

Throat pain caused by the common cold : Because of serious complications of strep throat, it is important to differentiate it from the common cold. It is uncommon for individuals with strep throat to have cold symptoms such as a runny nose, coughing or sneezing.
Throat pain caused by strep throat : One of the most common causes of sore throat is strep throat. You should know it can only be diagnosed
by laboratory tests
right in your
doctor's office. The sample used for the test is obtained
by rubbing a long cotton swab against the back of your throat.
Throat pain caused by acid reflux : Acid reflux occurs when the lower esophageal sphincter the muscle between the esophagus and stomach fails to close properly. As a result, acidic stomach contents spill into the esophagus, irritating and damaging its tissue. A sore throat caused by acid reflux usually occurs in the morning when you wake up, and it gets better the longer you are awake.
Throat pain caused by blisters in the throat : Caused by a virus that produces blisters on the neck infants and young children who are infected with it, the condition is called herpangina.Usually accompanied by high fever and this condition can be very painful. This pain usually goes away on its own in about 7 days.
Throat Pain Relief
Here are some ways to alleviate
throat pain caused by the common cold:
- Drink tea with honey and lemon.
- Drink cold liquids; eat cold
foods, such as ice pops.
- Avoid acidic foods, such as orange
or tomato juice.
- Suck on menthol or numbing cough
drops, such as Sucrets.
- Use an anesthetic throat spray,
such as Chloroseptic.
- Use cough suppressants, such as Robitussin,
to reduce irritation of the throat (not recommended for children under the age
of 6).
- Control post nasal drip to reduce irritation of the throat.
- Take an over-the-counter pain
reliever, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
To avoid the serious complications
of strep throat then it must be treated with antibiotics.

Taking all of your prescribed antibiotic on schedule until the entire bottle is
gone even if you are feeling better

Gargling with salt water a few times a day (1/2 tsp salt in 1 cup of water)

Using over-the-counter pain relievers, such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen, as
directed

Using an anesthetic throat spray, such as Chloroseptic
-
Sucking on cough drops or hard candy
-
Drinking cold fluids and eating cold foods
-
Drinking tea with honey and lemon
-
Eating foods that are easy to chew and swallow
-
Avoiding acidic foods, such as orange or tomato juice
-
Talking to your physician about the possibility of tonsil removal if you have
had 5 to 7 or more strep infections in one year .

Sleep with your head propped up.
-
Stop eating within a few hours of bedtime.
-
Try an over-the-counter antacid, such as Tums or Maalox.
-
If symptoms do not resolve, talk to your physician about longer term management
of your acid reflux.
Diagnosis should
be
made by
doctors.
You need to ensure that your child is not given fruit juices and foods high in citric acid to help manage deep
throat pain. Your child's doctor would prescribe an antibiotic and/or a topical
anaesthetic that contains Lidocaine Benzocaine if the pain is severe. But this
is not often the case.
